Open Question: Blood in dogs poop along with diarrhea.HELP!?

My Grandmothers fourteen year old chihuahua has been having diarrhea for about two months and most of the time there is blood in the feces as well. She took her to the doctors, they checked for parasites and worms and found none. He prescribed a antibiotic which was no help. He went back to the doctor and the doctor gave my grandmother probiotics. still no help.

We know that the dog 1. has not eaten bones or any sharp objects 2. has not had a change in diet. 3. is not stressed, there is no change in lifestyle. 4. has no parasite or warms.

What is going on with him? Any questions please ask. Thanks for your help.

he has had his anal glands done and he has fresh water. We do need to check his anal cavity for and tears. Thanks for your help everyone!

Open Question: Issues with Probiotics?

I own a four year old female Weimaraner, she has a very sensitive stomach and suffers from gastroenteritis frequently, mostly the problem was me, I would feed her human food and then end up with a sick dog on my hands. I have stopped giving her human food and I’ve put her on a high quality grain free dog food (TOTW) and she’s been doing well for the past year. Because of this I’m always looking for some product that will help her maintain a perfect digestive tract from digest-aid powers to over the counter probiotics.

Last week, after swimming in a run off pond, she got another bout of diarrhea and vomiting, when she didn’t improve after a few days I took her into the vet to test for Giardia. While in there the vet suggested I put her on a daily probiotic pill and gave me 30 days supply of Proverbial. This is a once a day capsule that you can sprinkle on the food so I did for two days. This morning I woke up to find that she had peed during her sleep, twice, figures last night she chose to sleep with me instead of her dog bed.

Roughly about six months or so ago I had purchased an over the counter probiotic pill from PetsMart called Probios. Day two of taking the pill she had the exact same problem, she wet the bed, so in order to rule out a UTI I stopped giving her the pill to see if she had the problem again, she didn’t, until now.

Now this isn’t a housebreaking issue because this dog hasn’t had an accident in the house since she was a year old, and nothing has changed in the house so it’s not behavioral, she isn’t drinking more water than usual and she isn’t dribbling or having accidents in the house that would make me think she had a UTI, it just seems a bit coincidental that each time she’s on a probiotic she’s had accidents at night.

In case people are wondering, yes I spoke to her vet just this morning and she said she’s never heard of this before and isn’t aware of any side affects that would cause her to urinate while sleeping.

My question is, has anyone given their dog a probiotic pill and had the same thing happen to them? I’m curious as to whether or not I’m the only one going through this issue or if others have experienced a similar issue such as this?

Thanks.
I was going to try her on Activia which my vet recommended and see if it’s just the pill form she has issues with, could be she has an allergy to an ingredient, but I wouldn’t have thought peeing was the result of an allergy.
@Rotten Rotts – I would have thought so too but it’s too coincidental that this only happens when she’s taking a probiotic pill. Once I stopped the Probios she never had another peeing issue during the night, now I’ve started her on a new probiotic and it starts again? Thanks I’ll see about the refrigerated probiotics.

Open Question: Toy poodle with pancreatitis?

Hi I have a toy poodle that is 3 years old and has had digestive problems for a long time. She would feel very bad for a day or so, tummy would gurgle terrible, then the next day have horrible gas, then she’d be okay. WE were told she had “sensitive stomach” to feed her good dog food with no human food and sometimes yogurt. FInally she got so bad one day she spit up blood. WE took her back in and they said she has pancreatitus. They told us to feed her low fat high carbs, On line I find more info about rice and boiled chicken. I found baby food rice with DHA and probiotics. I’ve been mixing small amounts with the chicken and wonder if this is okay? It says it is rice flour, so don’t know if it’s the same as the cooked rice I’m supposed to give. THANK YOU!

Resolved Question: How can I get my cat to stop pooping all over the house?

I have 3 cats, aged 2, 4 and 5 years old. My youngest is a rescue we got when she was 1 1/2 years old. About two months ago, after a trip to the vet for a couple vaccinations, she started pooping all over the house. It was diarrhea, and in a few different places. Our vet said there is nothing physically wrong with her and that she is probably just stressed, and gave us probiotics to give her once a day. After a few days of those pills, the poop was solid but still all over. Then we went away for 8 days and she went in the house a lot while we were gone, but in just two spots. Then a week later we had a weekend trip and put a second litter box in the spot where the pooping was now concentrated. She still had an accident on a rug. Since I have 3 dogs also, I can’t keep litter boxes or food all over. A friend suggested Comfort Zone plug-in to calm her down, and we got that a week ago and no change. We had gotten a new litter box before all this started, the CatGenie, but she used it no problem for the first month we had it and still does go in it now sometimes. I have taken out the area rug she poops on and washed the floor good where she poops. My husband is fed up with this cat, but there is no way we are getting rid of her or putting her down so if anyone has any more suggestions I’d appreciate it. I bought air fresheners to put in the pooping locations, and also plan to try getting an unscented cleaning cartridge for the CatGenie if it continues. Thanks for any suggestions.
I appreciate all the feedback! As I mentioned, she had no problem with the litter box for the first month or so, and will still use it sometimes. I haven’t been able to catch her in the act. She seems to go on the floor overnight and during the day (when the dogs are crated or outside.) Also, the litter box we have cleans itself like a toilet 10 min. after a cat uses it so it is always clean and stink-free. The litter box is in our laundry room, where the dogs do not have access. She is not the youngest or the newest member of the household. I will try to clean the floor with the enzyme stuff recommended. I have removed all rugs where she has gone. I’m hoping this is just a response to our vacations and craziness in this house and will calm down soon!
Also, I have found a lot of people recommend putting her in a room by herself until she uses the litter box properly. I’m hesitant to try this because I’m afraid this will upset her more to be locked away by herself. She has become more social since we got her and I don’t want to discourage that.

Voting Question: Abit of mucus around my dog’s stool?

We took our dog to the vet at the start of this week, because she had been having bouts of diarrhea on and off. Half diarrhea/half softly formed stool. She also had her all wormer tablet the same day before she went to the vet.
I gave him a stool sample and he said it wasn’t normal, but it wasn’t alarming. She has also been losing weight lately.
She was 15.63kg at the start of May, and is now just over 15kg.
We’ve been adding probiotics and psyllium husks (fiber) to her food and her stool has been small, firm and normal for about 3 days now. This morning she had abit of mucus around it. But the stool was small and firm. Same colour as the stool.
She’s due to be taken back to the vet next week. Should I try and beg my parents to take her earlier?
In terms of her behaviour, everything’s normal. Extremely hyperactive, drinks enough water, good appetite.
She’s 10 and never had any diet problems before.
I always forget something.
She’s had a blood test in Feb and the start of May and there were no problems there.
She’s eating Dr Billinghurst’s Lamb BARF variety.
